ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’ Video Hits One Billion Views
The iconic dance tune appeared on their fourth studio album, 1976’s ‘Arrival.’

The official music video for ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” has surpassed one billion views on YouTube. The 1976 song appeared on the Swedish group’s fourth studio album, Arrival. Directed by Swedish filmmaker Lasse Hallström, the song’s music video features the band performing the track in a nightclub. There is, of course, plenty of dancing.
“Dancing Queen” became the group’s only song to top the U.S. charts, reaching No. 1 on April 9, 1977. Singer Anni-Frid Lyngstad has recalled that the song, originally entitled “Boogaloo,” seemed special even in its earliest demo form; it moved her so much that she cried.
Arrival was released just six months after the group’s first greatest hits collection. The 10-song tracklist also included the hits “Money, Money, Money” and “Knowing Me, Knowing You.”
Earlier this year, ABBA celebrated the 50th anniversary of their 1975 self-titled record with a vinyl reissue. ABBA was the group’s first album after their performance of “Waterloo” won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, introducing Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Frida Lyngstad to a global audience. The album’s opening track, “Mamma Mia” was their first No. 1 in the UK since “Waterloo” while “I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do” topped the charts in Australia.
During a recent talk at SXSW London, Ulvaeus recently revealed that he is working on a new musical using artificial intelligence. The unnamed project would be the follow-up to the hugely successful pop quartet’s digital avatar stage show, Voyage. The Voyage virtual residency opened in London in May 2022 and is slated to run through January 2026. The four ABBA members have not performed live since their split in December 1982. In 2021, Abba released Voyage, their first album of new material in 40 years. The album includes the Grammy-nominated tracks “I Still Have Faith In You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down.”
