Metal Hammer Names Its Golden Gods

Winners Metal Hammer Golden Gods

Rock giants and newcomers alike were honoured last night (June 16) at Metal Hammer’s Golden Gods Awards in London, with Iron Maiden, Michael Schenker, Devil You Know and Hanoi Rocks among the victors.

Maiden were named Best U.K. Band, while their fellow metal long-servers Hanoi Rocks took the Inspiration Award and Schenker was bestowed the Behemoth Icon Award. L.A.-based supergroup Devil You Know were named Best New Band, while another up-and-coming Californian act, Of Mice & Men, took Breakthrough Artist.

Rock giants Avenged Sevenfold won the Best International Band title, with Killswitch Engage named Best Live Band. Mark Tremonti of Alter Bridge was named Riff Lord, The Album of the Year was Behemoth’s ‘The Satanist’ while Steel Panther’s ‘Party Like It’s The End Of The World’ was Video of the Year.
Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth was awarded Golden God.

Among the non-music categories, the unstoppable ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ was named Game of the Year, and Dave Prowse was presented with the Spirit of Hammer Award for his portrayal of Darth Vader in ‘Star Wars.’
