With 50 years of songwriting under their belt, Elton John and Bernie Taupin have one of the most fruitful partnerships in music history.

To celebrate this milestone in artistic compatibility, Elton John is seeking creative talent from all over the world to create official music videos for three of his most iconic songs: ‘Rocket Man’, ‘Tiny Dancer’ and ‘Bennie And The Jets’.
Given that many of their hits were released before the cultural rise of the music video, this competition gives aspiring creators the opportunity to reinvent these seminal songs and the resources to bring their concepts to life.

In partnership with YouTube, ‘Elton John: The Cut’ launches today, with entries officially opening to the public on 9 January 2017. Music video entries for each of the songs will feature different visual elements including animation for ‘Rocket Man’, live-action for ‘Tiny Dancer’ and choreography for ‘Bennie And The Jets’.

Three veteran YouTube creators will be responsible for shortlisting a set amount of entries and presenting their choices to a panel of final judges, who will be revealed on 9 January 2017. The YouTube roster includes music video hit-maker Kurt Hugo Schneider (or KHS); Parris Goebel, the director and choreographer behind Justin Bieber’s ‘Sorry’; and PES, the Oscar- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker who makes stop-motion masterpieces.

Together with a panel of celebrated industry judges, Elton John and Bernie Taupin will select the final three winners. These applicants will receive all the resources necessary to produce their vision with the full support of YouTube, including production funding and use of the YouTube Space facilities. Pulse Films, an award-winning production studio and the talent behind Beyoncé’s groundbreaking Lemonade film will also support the production of the final music videos.

The competition closes on 23 January 2017 and is open to anyone over 16, subject to local terms and conditions. The winning entries will premiere on YouTube in the summer of 2017. To find out more about ‘Elton John: The Cut’, and how to enter, visit www.eltonjohn.com/thecut.
