Julian Lennon Honours Mum Cynthia’s Memory
Julian Lennon’s White Feather Foundation has announced today (10) that it will establish the Cynthia Lennon Scholarship For Girls, in honour of Julian’s late mother.
The initial funding for the venture will be in partnership with Connect To Learn, a global education initiative of The Earth Institute at Columbia University, Ericsson and Millennium Promise. Scholarships will have a focus on Africa, and be provided to ten girls, covering a full four years of educational support for each recipient.
The White Feather Foundation is committing to multiple scholarships in Cynthia’s name over the course of five years. The Cynthia Lennon Scholarship For Girls’ initial focus will be in the Sauri region of Kenya.
Julian was moved to create the scholarship after two highly significant events: the passing in April of his mother, and his 2014 visit to Kenya and Ethiopia to witness the positive effects of clean water and education initiatives funded by his White Feather Foundation.
Widely acclaimed for his work as a photographer, Julian captured images of local people and landscapes that were subsequently displayed in a seven-week charity photo exhibition, ‘Horizon,’ in New York earlier this year. That exhibit continues to tour globally at art fairs and gallery exhibits, with proceeds from the sale of the collection, as well all of Julian’s collections, going to The White Feather Foundation, which he founded in 2007.
