Originally released in March 1995, the album highlights Osborne’s fusion of contemporary folk, rock, and pop, and scored a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. It’s best known for its lead single, “One Of Us.” The singer’s signature hit peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped international charts in Australia, Canada, Sweden, and Belgium. It earned three Grammy nominations for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The song, which ponders if God could be a human being, was later used as the theme song for the ‘00s fantasy series Joan of Arcadia.

Relish also features songs like “Man in the Long Black Coat”, a cover of Bob Dylan’s song from 1989’s Oh Mercy album; “St. Theresa”, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance; “Right Hand Man”; and “Lumina”, which was featured in first episode of the HBO’s The Sopranos in 1999 and CBS’ The Good Wife in 2013.

“I have had other artists and other musicians come up to me and say it was a real sort of touchstone record for them. But I think maybe in my experience it’s more of an emotional legacy, because I have people come up to me on a regular basis when I’m on the road or even at a cocktail party or something,” Osborne previously said of the album’s legacy. “People will come up and they’ll single out a particular song and they’ll say what that song really meant to them in their lives. I’ve had people who were growing up gay in a small town in Idaho come up to me and be in tears about how the record really saved their life. How they knew that there was another way of looking at themselves other than the way that their community thought of them.”

Osborne has since released twelve albums following Relish, including 2017’s Songs of Bob Dylan tribute album and 2023’s Nobody Owns You. Back in July, the singer joined fellow ‘90s singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb for Appalachian State University’s annual summer arts celebration, “An Appalachian Summer.” The concert was in celebration of the 30th anniversaries of both Osborne’s Relish and Loeb’s Tails albums.
