Kanye West will present an opera titled Nebuchadnezzar at the Hollywood Bowl next Sunday, 24 November.

West shared a golden invitation to the event, designed by Nick Knight and featuring an engraved image of the ancient Babylonian king of the same name on Twitter.

Nebuchadnezzar will be directed by Vanessa Beecroft and include music with Sunday Service, Peter Collins & Infinities Song.

The Hollywood Bowl’s official website says tickets will be on sale Monday, 18 November at noon. The 24 November show is set to take place at 4 p.m. local time.

The biblical title comes after the superstar took a foray into gospel music on his latest release, Jesus Is King. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, making it his ninth consecutive No. 1 and tying with Eminem’s for the longest in the chart’s history.

Issued on 25 October via GOOD Music/Def Jam Recordings, West’s gospel-hip-hop gamble paid off, earning 264,000 equivalent album units in the US in the week ending on 31 October, according to Nielsen Music. Of that total, 109,000 were in album sales, while the rest was powered by streaming activity, Billboard reported.

During a recent interview with Zane Lowe, West also likened himself to Nebuchadnezzar while discussing his past Yeezus tour.

“[God] is saying, Let me take this Nebuchadnezzar-type character—Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon, and he looked at his entire kingdom and said, I did this,” he said.

He added: “I stood on the top of the mountain talking about Yeezus, saying, ‘I’m a God’—I had a guy dressed as Jesus.”

Meanwhile, West performed for prison inmates as he brought his Sunday Service show to a Houston jail over the weekend.

The rap star visited the Harris County Jail in Houston, Texas ahead of his appearance at televangelist Joel Osteen’s church in the city.

According to TMZ, Kanye and his choir turned up to the prison by surprise on Friday morning (November 15). The outlet claims that the rapper stayed for a couple of hours to play to a select group of inmates and staff members.
