After rumors and online fan speculation, Taylor Swift has just announced her newest album. The Life of a Showgirl will be the 12th entry in Swift’s discography following 2024’s The Tortured Poet’s Department.
On the evening of August 11, a cryptic countdown appeared on Swift’s website, backdropped with bright orange glitter and text that read “EXPIRES 12 AT 12:12AM ET”. Fans quickly pieced together that this would correlate with an album announcement after @TaylorNation, Swift’s official social media team, made a post earlier that morning captioned “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era…’ ❤️”
Once the countdown on Swift’s website ended, pre-orders for The Life of A Showgirl CDs, cassettes, and a special orange glitter vinyl went live on her webstore. The album’s release date has yet to be announced, but pre-order shipping dates for physical items on Swift’s website indicate that the album is expected to be released sometime before October 13, 2025.
While the cover art, track list, and release date remain a mystery, The Life of a Showgirl marks Swift’s first release since gaining full control of her music catalog after starting the “Taylor’s Version” re-recording project in 2021.
Swift has stated that her albums are “My memories and my sweat and my handwriting and my decades of dreams.” As the newest entry in Swift’s discography, fans can surely expect The Life of a Showgirl to reflect the star’s continued artistic evolution and newfound creative freedom as the sole owner of her master recordings.
Following the new album’s announcement, Swift and boyfriend Travis Kelce shared that the singer will be a guest on Travis and Jason Kelce’s podcast New Heights to discuss the new album. The podcast is set to air on Wednesday at 7pm ET.
