Olivia Rodrigo Brings Out Weezer During Headlining Lollapalooza Set
The singer invited the band to perform ‘Buddy Holly’ and ‘Say It Ain’t So.’

Olivia Rodrigo surprised the Lollapalooza crowd during her headlining set by inviting rock and roll giants Weezer on stage to perform a few classic tracks.
Toward the end of her performance, she invited the band to join her on-stage, noting that Weezer was the first band she ever saw live.
“You always remember your first concert. It’s a very, very special moment,” Rodrigo said. “I remember my first concert. It was a very memorable night. I watched this incredible band and I am so over the moon, because that incredible band is actually here tonight to play a few songs. Will you please say hello to Weezer?”
Weezer then strolled on stage and joined Rodrigo for versions of their massive singles “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So,” both from the band’s 1994 self-titled album. She played guitar and sang alongside Rivers Cuomo during the performance.
Rodrigo reflected on the event on social media, even sharing a photo of herself as a child at said concert, wearing oversized ear protection and wearing a Weezer shirt. Rodrigo wrote in the post, “my first concert and my last weekend of the GUTS tour. thank u to everyone who came out and thank u @weezer for still making me this excited all these years later!!! cannot believe how lucky I am to be able to play these shows with yall!!!! [three heart emojis].” Weezer added in the comments: “Full circle moment and an absolute honor, thank you [rock fingers emoji, lightning bolt emoji].”
Rodrigo has made a habit of inviting artists to perform their songs during her festival headlining sets. At this year’s Glastonbury Festival in the UK at the end of June, Rodrigo was also one of the headlining acts, and invited The Cure’s Robert Smith onstage for a rendition of the band’s “Just Like Heaven.” At Governors Ball in New York earlier that month, she performed Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House” alongside the band’s David Byrne.
