Having seized the imagination of the British public on its earlier UK leg, the 2014 Tour de France is about to reach the full-on mountain stages, as it pedals towards its conclusion in Paris on July 21. So we thought there was no better time than to create a (wait for it) song cycle to celebrate the wonders of the bicycle.

We at uDiscover have put together a bespoke (pun intended) playlist featuring some tunes you’d expect to hear in a tribute to the bike, by the likes of Queen, Kraftwerk and the Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd, but with plenty of nice surprises. There are vintage hits by the likes of the Mixtures, Nazareth and even Engelbert Humperdinck, a little ‘Smile’ outtake by the Beach Boys and Hank Marvin’s take on a Katie Melua single.

Of course, we had to include a track by Bombay Bicycle Club, and listen too for an apt piece of French romanticism by Yves Montand. We’ll cross the finishing line in comic style with two great British humourists, Vivian Stanshall and Max Miller.
