Nicola Benedetti And A Kind of Homecoming

Violinist, Nicola Benedetti is an enthusiastic musical ambassador for Scotland and with all eyes on Scotland for the Commonwealth Games and the referendum on Scottish independence, Benedetti has recorded a traditional Scottish folk tune for her new album, which also features Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy.

This behind-the-scenes film shows her rehearsing with some of Scotland’s leading folk musicians – Phil Cunningham, Aly Bain and folk singer Julie Fowlis – and having to learn bowing techniques to cope with the lightning-fast folk tunes. It’s tiring but she admits to being exhilarated to be part of an ongoing celebration of Scottish music. ‘I’m taking away a sense of togetherness,’ she says.
