“Could You Be Loved,” the classic track from Bob Marley & The Wailers, has just gotten a new remix from the DJ LP Giobbi. The remix comes from the Marley family, along with UMe and Island Records, to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Marley’s record Uprising, originally released in 1980.

When it was released in 1980, “Could You Be Loved” was a hit around the globe, charting everywhere from the United States to Australia and landing in the top five in Ireland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Since then, the track has only grown in popularity, with Rolling Stone ranking it among the 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time in its 2021 update of the list. The track also got a music video for the first time in 2022.

Of course, Marley’s music and influence have lasted long after his untimely death in 1981. Especially in recent years, his legacy has been explored across a variety of media, including 2024’s biopic Bob Marley: One Love. This year, the webseries “Bob Marley & I” released six episodes, which feature interviews with people who knew Marley personally like musician and DJ Don Letts, performer Marcia Griffiths, writer Chris Salewicz, and photographer Adrian Boots. Marley’s son Ziggy will also rerelease the documentary Marley on July 15 through his Tuff Gong Worldwide company, bringing the doc to streaming platforms and a collector’s edition DVD for the 80th Earthstrong Celebration.

As for remixer LP Giobbi, her history of combining different genres into dance music makes her a strong fit for this “Could You Be Loved” remix. The DJ has worked and toured with musicians as diverse as John Summit, Diplo, Dead & Co, Black Coffee, and Sofi Tukker, and applies her background as a classically trained pianist to house music. By combining elements of techno and house with Marley’s original reggae track, LP Giobbi is able to bring something new to a beloved classic.
