Phosphorescent, the project of Matthew Houck, has shared the official music video for “The World Is Ending,” a highlight from his recent album Revelator.

The video, directed by Danny Dunlop, matches the song’s contemplative spirit with Houck exploring a blown-out, seemingly post-apocalyptic environment amidst twirling, oblivious dancers.

Of the video, Houck says: “It was a real pleasure to work with filmmaker Danny Dunlop on this video. We had been in touch and I had shared with him this vision I had of a dreamy, uncertain landscape — an urban wasteland of rubble and ruin with revelers waltzing among the debris, among the remnants of some former glamour[.] Phosphorescent was about to head out on tour at that time and as luck would have it we were scheduled with a day off exactly as we would be passing through Danny’s hometown near Toronto in just a couple of weeks[.]

“So Danny got to work and scouted a location and sourced dancers and crew and set decor and grip etc. And so when the day came we met up in the late afternoon in the top floor of a tall crumbling warehouse, a place on its way to being reclaimed by nature where perfectly preserved skeletons of birds laid peacefully among the broken glass[.] And in a few hours had filmed something I think is quite beautiful[.] I hope you enjoy it[.] Xo, Matthew.”

Phosphorescent has also revealed his work doing the score for Paul Schrader’s Oh, Canada film, out in theaters now via Kino Lorber.

Oh, Canada stars Richard Gere, Uma Thurman, Michael Imperioli, and Jacob Elordi. It follows legendary filmmaker Leonard Fife (Richard Gere), still a force to be reckoned with despite his age and declining health, who wants to tell his life story, unfiltered, before it’s too late.
